MRT in essence
We are manufacturers
At Moreda Riviere Trefilerías (MRT) we produce wire and metal fencing in two factories located in Gijón (Asturias) and Cerdanyola del Vallès (Catalonia).
With a large fleet of machines and membership in the Celsa group that provides us with raw materials, at MRT we control the entire manufacturing process. Thus, from the transformation of wire rod into wire to manufacture of an extensive range of fencing, We carry out all necessary industrial processes in-house. This includes, by way of example:
- Welding (for the manufacture of welded mesh in rolls or rigid mesh such as Hércules panels).
- Braiding (either for the manufacture of chain link rolls, various knotted meshes, barbed wires…).
- Painting (for fencing systems such as panels, gates, railings…) with our painting line whose performance is at the level of what is required in the automotive industry, both in terms of quality and range of colors and textures.
In addition to the control and traceability involved in managing the in-house manufacturing of our products, it allows us to adapt to the regulatory standards of the more than 60 countries in which we distribute our products. And this, of course, without renouncing the guarantees inherent in the quality of these products, as well as the range of services and tools available to our customers.

Manufacturing of wire
First, the wire rod must be drawn, which consists of gradually reducing its diameter by a mechanical cold drawing process through dies. This process converts the wire rod into so-called grey wire, giving it strength and hardness. Once the desired diameter has been obtained, the wire is pickled and degreased before going through a thermal process, to obtain a hard or annealed wire.
Then, the wire is hot-dip galvanized, an operation during which it is immersed in a zinc bath (or a zinc and aluminum alloy called ZnAl) to make it highly resistant to corrosion. An ECOVER coating (patented by MRT) can be added, which further extends the wire’s useful life.
Finally, the wire must be packaged according to its destination. That is, for internal consumption and subsequent transformation into MRT or to sell, taking into account the customers’ requirements regarding the presentation of the wire.
Despite more than 150 years of experience, our team is continually learning and works tirelessly to improve and innovate the wire drawing and galvanizing processes. This endeavour has led to for example, further expansion of the range of diameters that can be manufactured with ZnAl coating, and the production of ECOVER in the two plants, etc. Likewise, with an eye always on increasing safety, we have carried out the automation of the pressing and strapping of the wire, which also speeds up the production process. Another notable improvement is the latest galvanising line installed at the Cerdanyola plant. In addition to including the most advanced technology in the industry and enabling the manufacture of ZnAl coated and super heavy galvanized wire, it integrates considerable environmental improvements.
Enclosures production
Wire has the particularity of being able to be straightened, welded and braided without significantly altering its mechanical properties.
Galvanized wire is used to manufacture most enclosures, whether rigid panels (MRT is the manufacturer of the Hercules panel), chain link, knotted mesh, welded mesh, barbed wire, etc. In addition, some products can be manufactured with non-galvanized wire (bright /grey steel wire), such as welded mesh panels, which are coated afterwards.
MRT also provides the option of post-galvanized enclosures, which consists of the complete immersion of the product once manufactured in a bath of molten zinc. This process involves the covering of the entire product with a very high layer of zinc (according to the EN ISO 1461 standard), which gives it, in addition to a very recognizable non-uniform and non-smooth grey appearance, protection against corrosion.
Some products require that the galvanized wire be plasticized prior to their manufacture. It is a plasticization by extrusion, as is the case with chain link fencing for example.
Products such as Jarditor are plasticized by fluidization, whereby the mesh passes through a bed of suspended PVC particles that adhere to the mesh after it has already been welded. The particles subsequently melt and harden, leaving an uniformed surface.
Another coating option we propose, the laminating in the powder paint line through an electrostatic application process with the characteristic tricationic microcrystalline phosphating (Zinc / Nickel / Manganese) and its 11 pre-treatment stages produces a finish of the highest quality.
Finally, to meet corrosion requirements far beyond the standard, in case of very aggressive atmospheric environments for example, we propose the option of post-galvanised (also called hot-dip galvanized) and then painted products. This is our “Bord de Mer” coating.
Warranty
Our quality policy is our constant commitment, so we carry out a policy of continuous investment to adapt to the technical evolutions of the market and respond to the demands of customers and partners. With its 11 pre-treatment stages, this process guarantees a maximum quality finish. Tests in a salt spray chamber (CNS) show that the products we paint last 1,000 hours, whilst other products, painted with more common processes based on amorphous phosphating, only last 250 hours.
We manufacture our products under the standards such as:
- EN ISO 4628
- EN ISO 12944-2
Tests done:
- QUV test: UV resistance
- Kesternich test: resistance to SO₂
- Saline mist test: resistence to NaCl.
What is the 10-Year Warranty?
The MRT guarantee consists of certifying the corrosion resistance of the products we manufacture for 10 years. This is in environments of corrosivity category C5 according to the EN ISO 12944 standard with the Bord de Mer coating. In MRT we undertake to replace all damaged products, according to the conditions described in the form.
What is the 25-Year Warranty?
The MRT guarantee certifies the corrosion resistance of the ECOVER coating and A class ZnAl, highlighting the superiority of the range of products on which it is applied. The rigorousness of the test and the high technology of manufacture allows to grant this guarantee with confidence and to be a reference for the quality of our products. (Consult the conditions of application of the warranties).
Standards
We manufacture our products following a standard according to European and international norms, which favors the exportation of its products all over the world, guaranteeing the highest quality. We work in many sectors, so we adapt each of our products to the market to which it is directed.
